Anime recap…

Hordy? No, NO! FUNimation, you WILL call him Hody Jones, it just. Makes. Sense. PLUS it’s confirmed by the actual manga when it was written in English!

Okay, this is my first time watching the anime in a while… It kind of sucks that there’s another time-wasting segment talking about the series at hand; kind of like how before the timeskip, there would be this part that talked about Luffy, who he is, what his powers are, and how he gathered a crew, etc. Do we REALLY need to be told this EVER SINGLE EPISODE?!

Part of me kind of wishes I had been watching the anime up to this point… But I’ll go back and watch some other time.

I have to say, I’m REALLY liking Jimbei’s voice. It’s less growly and more… comprehensible. Well, that’s a little mean, but seriously, it sounds like Katsuhisa Hōki is finally fitting in nicely with his role.

Yeah, when Hody said it was a HUMAN that shot Otohime, I did not buy it for a SECOND, and I knew from that moment that it was HIM to shot her, and just used the human as a scapegoat.

I kind of like how the manga kept it in suspense who the “shooter” was until Hody “revealed” it to the public, but this works fine, too. I also like how Jimbei wanted to hide this, because he knew it would create FURTHER hatred between humans and fishmen/merfolk. Really, Hody’s motivation is really crazy, in that only aims to create more hatred and resistance between the two/three species, and he’s willing to sacrifice his own kind to do so. That’s really low…

Speaking of Hody, his voice is… good. I suppose I didn’t expect it to sound any different, although to me, it DOES sound familiar, although most Japanese voices sound the same to me.

Really, though, I hated this part in the manga, and I hate it here… Not because there’s anything wrong with the scene, but because it’s just so painful to sit through… It’s so heart-wretching, even though it SEEMS like the truth at the time (I kind of knew it wasn’t the case, but I wouldn’t be proven right until much later).

King Neptune also sounds interesting. Sounds like someone who can be taken seriously, even though he says some pretty silly things.

This part I do like, though, because King Neptune is angsting over wanting the one who shot Otohime punished, but NOT wanting to ruin what she stood for by killing a human. A moral crossroads, as it were…

I also kind of expected Neptune’s beard to move when he spoke, but I guess the animators took the cheaper way out.

Aww… Seeing poor Shirahoshi cry while grabbing her father’s beard is really cute, but also very sad…

The first of many proposals by Vander Decken, the sick weirdo. I forgot THIS was the reason why the children didn’t attend. Also, Neptune looks weird in a black suit.

…the FUCK?! Where’d that screen come from?! Seriously, this series switches back and forth between what kind of technology they have in this universe!

Great music accompanying Fukaboshi’s words! The speech itself was great, too.

I seriously hope that they go back to having different music for each individual character eventually… Also, a NEW eyecatcher that’s completely different from any seen before? Okay… But still the same music.

I like how Luffy looks like he’s paying attention but he’s really just asleep… Which is strange, because he usually has a snot bubble while asleep. But then again, it wouldn’t nearly be as funny if we didn’t THINK he was paying attention.

Sanji’s a real jerk, you know. Telling him to cut open his belly, just because Jimbei FEELS responsible. Yeah, maybe he DID let Arlong loose on the East Blue, but it was still ARLONG that did it, Jimbei’s a good man and WOULD have stopped Arlong if he could…

I like how Nami explained to Jimbei how she felt about the whole thing, and that she doesn’t hate him for being a fishman. Jimbei is very dutiful, and feels he could have changed things if he could if things go wrong. Very honorable, that’s what I like most about him.

Franky mispronounced Otohime’s name… Funny? Either way, this IS very touching.

It’s so WEIRD to see someone so big, pretty, and sensitive talking to Nami… Such an odd picture… But she has a cute voice!

Yeah, I also like it when Hachi describes Hody and compares him to Arlong. Although, I think if it weren’t for Fisher Tiger’s involvement with Arlong, I THINK he would still feel the same way as Hody does… Although he probably has more justifiable hatred for humans.

That’s a really big snail… Say, didn’t they use that during the Marineford arc? Yeah, the people at Sabaody Archipelago were watching the screens those snails made!

As to your actual recap…

Yeah, I LIKED that for once, they DON’T explain the joke in One Piece. That seems to be a Japanese thing, in that they outright state what the joke is as if to say “THIS IS FUNNY, YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO LAUGH AT THIS!” That’s not how humor’s supposed to work, but i guess in that culture it does… Still, the “WHAT?!” instead of “WHAT?! He’s asleep?!” was a nice touch.

LOVE hearing “Kokoro no Chizu”, my favorite opening!

Supposedly, Capcom said it was going to STOP on-disc DLC, but yeah, unlocking stuff on the disc USED to be about playing the game, not giving the already rich companies more money…

Anyway, glad to be back in the swing of things, for now…

At least, that’s what wikipedia says, which as we all know is an unstoppable force of factual info :p

I just think it’s funny you all were correcting Firecrouch with the wrong pronounciation.
