On this episode of The One Piece Podcast we’re joined by Funkatron, Ichnob, Kate, and for the first time Alina James as we go over just about everything. We begin with a rundown of the latest podcast happenings, then we go into some News, a bit of Manga Recap for Chapter 641, and some Anime Recap for Episode 518. After that we talk to Alina about her work on the official releases of One Piece in both the manga and the anime in Russia, followed by a mega-sized Pieces of Eight, and round off with a short Piece Together.

Manga recap…
It’s true, the cover page IS more interesting than what went on in the chapter! I’d like to know what’s happening with King Cobra… He’s one of the few genuinely GOOD royalty figures in One Piece, he CAN’T die!
Oh shit, you skipped, like, 10 pages of “action” there! Not that it matters, I probably wouldn’t commented on it, either way. :/
Other than Luffy’s haki, of course.
I didn’t really notice this the first time, but… Yeah, a lot of weird stuff happens that don’t make sense. It’ll probably go about better in the anime.
The flashback is also a bit confusing, too. I think Oda didn’t bother bringing these parts up until it’s very important… And when it was going to be the most surprising, or something…
I’m glad Luffy’s strong enough to break that blade, but he’s still somehow not strong enough to take down Hody… He really is a monster! And they keep hammering it home!
See, that’s something that’s always bothered me. From what I’ve seen, Hody Jones has always been in the Fishman District, and never really went to the surface… as far as we know. It just didn’t make sense for him to hate humans so much, other than generic evilness and a superiority complex. But maybe, that’s not the case…
Arlong as Hody’s father? That WOULD make sense… Yeah, I can see that.
I don’t know, I still like this arc, I don’t mind if it goes on a little longer, though I think this chapter’s pretty boring…
Anime recap…
Oh man… Seeing the opening go directly to episode caught me off guard! I’m so used to having that 1 minute thing about Luffy’s crew and being in the Great Pirate Era… At least we get to the episode quicker now.
It’s so hilarious to see Fake Luffy walking all menacingly at Luffy, because we know Luffy would beat him to a bloddy pulp in a heartbeat! XD
lol at the mustache! No one will EVER suspect a guy with a mustache like that!
I still wish Marguerite joined the crew, she seems like a cute character with a lot of potential.
I like what Luffy says. He never really says good-bye to anyone, just a “see you later”, because he intends to me everyone he meets again at some point.
I have to say again, I really have a lot of respect for Duval, after he defended the Thousand Sunny to such extremes. I’m going to miss him… Too bad he couldn’t improve his wink much after 2 years.
Shakkie’s a bit rude for interrupting Duval like that. :/
I wonder… Brook’s become world-famous, and yet the other Straw Hat Pirates don’t seem to know much about it. They were probably either cut-off from the mainstream music industry, or too busy focusing on training.
That last part Sanji said… Was that in the manga? I forget.
So we cut back to Chopper, in some more filler… He’s just so cute, I love him! X3
Wait, wait, wait… “Blackbeard, Kid, and Drake?” …FORESHADOWING?! How does the anime know this?! What’s up with that? Either way, I like the design of that pirate…
Fake Zoro’s so fat… And so out-of-shape. The exact opposite of the real Zoro.
Fake Sanji is a lot paler than the real Sanji… I have to say, he did a good jot at impersonating him, given his awful wanted poster.
Fake Robin’s so short, and relatively unattractive. Bleh…
And Fake Chopper… Eh, who cares about him. :/
I feel SO bad for Chopper here… I mean, come on, Chopper, don’t be so naive!
Those guys in black… I wish we knew more about them, instead of just assuming they’re government agents.
I like how the agent guys don’t even notice the real Robin as she walks by… And how Sanji runs off before Robin arrives.
I wonder of Luffy just has his face hidden really well, or if Fake Luffy is really just that stupid…
That eyecatcher… The theme is nice and claming, but I still miss the variety of the previous eyecatchers.
I also like how the Fake Straw Hat Pirates are assuming he’s frozen with fear. It’s going to make what’s about to happen to them all the more satisfying.
I love how the girls screams, expecting the worst, but she really can’t expect what’s going to happen…
LUFFY IN THE MATRIX!
Luffy must have trained himself really well, he only made the Fake Straw Hats pass out and no one else… Also… Why didn’t Luffy fall for Fake Nami, Fake Sogeking, and Fake Franky’s disguises, I wonder…
It’s just so WEIRD! He’s noticing they’re acting weird, but he still assumes they’re the real deal! Because… umm, they kind of, sort of, just barely look like who they’re supposed to look like? Also, Chopper has a good sense of smell, I’m sure they smell different then the real deal. I just can’t find this funny!
Fake Robin’s also an idiot… She isn’t sure what “Cotton Candy Lover” Chopper would it… And instead offers it a cucumber. Sheesh.
STILL want to know who those black suit guys are…
Filler time with Sanji… Ugh… Well, at least we haven’t set up the nosebleeds yet… Oh GOD that’s going to be a nightmare!
I wonder where Sanji’s heading off to… Probably to find either Nami or Robin… Or perhaps Zoro? Also, I wonder how that takoyaki compares to Hachi’s…
It’s amazing how Zoro could confuse the fisherman’s fishing boat with the huge coated ship. That’s what’s so weird… He’s just as stupid, if not stupider than before, and yet he’s completely serious in everything he says and does. Like what he says to those pirates after he split their ship in half. “A quirk of fate” my ass, you’re just dumb.
So, alright episode overall. I enjoyed it fairly well.
Piece Together…
Dang, I wish I had more to comment on for the last few segments, but whatever, maybe it’s better this way. It means shorter posts from me.
Oh shoot… You won’t be answering any of my questions this week.
Oh well, I’ve got a GOOD question for you to answer next week!

Great episode you guys I hope you’ll put the full manga recap up soon. Your I need lady promo was freaking HILARIOUS XD! Loved it! It was great to hear from Alina she truly has the OP fans dream job. My favorite part for this episode was definitely the pieces of eight Thanks so much for that Kate & Ichnob tons of cool things I now need to buy lol. I can’t wait to hear the winners for the back to the future contest. I hope you’ll have it next week but if not It’s understandable ^_^. Have fun at NY comic-con!

In the manga recap, for the flashback, there was one panel that did hint that Fukaboshi and Luffy were planning something. It was in chapter 639 right after Luffy did Snake Shot on Hody. The correct translation has Fukaboshi state that he and Luffy were late because they were preparing for something.
