Great podcast you guys loved the double anime recap. I can’t believe the timeskip is almost here YAY XD! I am especially hyped for your timeskip contest I definitely want to enter it ^_^.
News…
I take offense to the Wii being a “super-powered GameCube”! >:(
Manga recap…
…Wait, chapter 629?! What about chapter 637?! What’s going on?!?!?!? I’m so fucking pissed right now, why aren’y you doing the latest chapter?! did you mess something up?! FIX IT!!! I’m sorry, but I’m really annoyed and confused here!
…Okay, I’m listening to the podcast on the site instead of the one I downloaded on iTunes…
Anyway, yeah, the title… The Ancient Ark… Interesting Japanese information…
Dr. Kureha and the Isshi-100, cool. Drum Island is now known for it’s great doctors once more.
I LOVE how surprised the New Fishman Pirates constantly getting shocked and surprised by how strong Luffy is! XD
I didn’t notice that Luffy used Armraki to defend himself against Hody’s kick… But then again, it makes sense.
The fighting moves don’t make sense, but they look cool at least.
I guess I never really understood “calling their attacks”, but then again, I know how powerful or what techniques he can use.
It’s so strange to see Luffy acting all cool like that, dodging the attacks like that…
YAY! We’re seeing Surume again!
lol, Shirahoshi voice! XD
Some people complained about Oda fucking up the scale of Noah and Fishman Island… And someone else pointed out Jinbe choking another NFP guy. They say it’s weird that he’s a master of Fishman Karate, yet he resorts to choking.
Poor Wadatsumi. He’s like a really big baby.
I like the conversation about the trope of villains explaining their plans. Vander Decken has been proven to be a little crazy, but Hody’s just you classic dumb villain; so cock-sure that he’s going to win that he blabs about all his plans. Dumbass.
Austin Powers is a nice comparison.
“What? Are you feeding him? Why don’t you just kill him?”
“I have an even better idea. I’m going to place him in an easily escapable situation involving an overly elaborate and exotic death.” lol
Shirahoshi’s so selfless… I love that sweet big girl… And I was very worried when she got stabbed like that. Everyone teased and taunted me, saying no one dies in One Piece. That really made me angry. I mean, sure I don’t expect her to die, but I’m still concerned about her safety, dammit!
Yeah, Luffy is NOT a big fan of people sacrificing themselves. He hates that.
Sonic CD had Sonic the Hedgehog running up a giant chain.
I didn’t like this chapter, it was too short, or rather it went by too quickly… standard action chapter, so whatever.
Anime recap episode 512…
Okay, about the contest; my art sucks (at the moment) so I suppose I’ll pass on it. Besides, I’d like to wait and see for myself what the other characters will look like after the time skip!
Okay so first off, we see Buggy reuniting with his beloved old crew… and how they combine their strength (or lack thereof) with Buggy’s new followers! Richie’s always thinking about food. And is SO MUCH LESS intimidating than when we first met him. And don’t ruin the moment, Alvida, they would have tried to save Buggy if you didn’t convince them otherwise.
Apparently, Cabaji is “chief of staff” instead of “second mate”. Regardless, I’d LOVE to see more of Cabaji in the future, he seems like the only member of the old Buggy Pirates that stands a chance of improving his combat skills… I’d also like to know what they’re planning on doing with those markers for Captain John’s treasure.
This part wasn’t in the manga. Buggy’s reaction to Rayleigh being with Luffy. Buggy knows Rayleigh’s strength, and even though he knew Luffy ran into Rayleigh, he didn’t know that Rayleigh is supporting Luffy’s ambition… Instead, he assumes Rayleigh is Luffy’s uncle! XD
Mr. 3 seems to be officially part of the crew now, and bunking with Alvida as second-in-command (yeah, screw Mohji, Alvida’s Buggy’s true right-hand). Also, that’s an invitation to become a Warlord. No doubt in my mind.
It’s nice to see Duval has such loyalty to Sanji and the other Straw Hats… Good thing, too, although along with Hachi protecting the ship, it ultimately doesn’t matter in the end… Why? Well, wait until after the timeskip, and you’ll see why. Anyway, those monkey guys were seen once before. The Straw Hat Pirates questioned them about where Camie was, and they said they brought a giant to the slave auction. Interesting to see them again.
Duval’s either really thick or Toei’s really trying to drag this episode out. It’s also funny how he kicked them all, almost like Sanji! Pappug’s right, he screwed up his epic speech big time.. “He’s rather touch a girl”. Ew… OH LOOK, PANDAMAN! …Sort of…
They’re talking about what they’ll do when the get to Fishman Island… And while some of them do see the Mermaid Cafe, and while all of them DO meet the Mermaid Princess (Although Pappug lied about knowing her personally), we haven’t see the Fishman Karate dojo yet… Do you think we ever will?
I don’t care how old Shakkie is, she is SMOKIN’!
I remember this joke about bears in the manga, I thought they would drag this out more in the anime, but instead they go right to Kuma showing up… He certainly is imposing, no matter where he is what what he does…
And now we cut to Alabasta! See how Vivi and good ol’ Carue is doing! I’m impressed Vivi managed to catch the message on Luffy’s arm, but she doesn’t understand it… Unfortunately for her, it’s a message specifically for those traveling with Luffy. As for Cobra, Igaram, Chaka, and the SOMEHOW still alive Pell, it seems that Alabasta is also effected by the increase in pirate activity… Thankfully, it’s nothing Pell and Chaka can’t handle.
Wow… Here I thought Crocodile and Mr 1 (I guess I’ll have to call him Daz Bones from now on) were in some back alley or something, but apparently, everyone knows they’re there… Makes sense, seeing as they’re still recovering. Also, apparently Crocodile’s been to the New World. I guess it should be expected, but it still amazes me that someone who was defeated by Luffy relatively early on can still hold his own and still could be considered one of the strongest pirates out there. Daz Bones has a fierce reputation back in his home sea, but does he have what it takes to stand with Crocodile in the New World?
Cool! We get quick clips of everyone close to the Straw Hat Pirates! (I wonder if we’ll get this in the anime after the timeskip…). Makino, Woop Slap, and Windmill Villain. Koushiro and his students, Kaya and the Usopp Pirates, Genzo and Nojiko, the Baratie (weird order so far, but whatever), Dalton and Dr. Kureha, the Franky Family, and Iceburg and Paulie. Dadan looks back at Luffy, Ace, and Sabo’s old treehouse… How heart-wrenching…
Those girls are all surrounding Luffy stretching him… For some reason, I feel as thought this scene should be awkward or he should be a lucky bastard, but I don’t know which… Seeing the girls try and stretch Rayleigh and Jimbei was kind of cute, too… Perhaps they’ll learn that not all men are stretchy like Luffy.
“There is one guy who looks a bit dull”. Does he mean Zoro? Seriously, how could Rayleigh know that after meeting the Straw Hats for such a short time?
It’s also interesting to see what all the Straw Hats are doing right before understanding the message… lol, Ivankov! XD It’s weird, though, that just because Usopp’s fat, that means his voice has to be deeper… It’s also funny seeing Nami trying to sneak off, only to find out Luffy wants her to stay for 2 years. OOPS!
That kid and his grandfather must be REALLY pissed at Franky, and I don’t blame them. Franky really deserves a lot of scorn for what he did, accident or no. Tell FUNimation to use “forsooth” in the English dub, if and when they get up to this point.
Franky’s still alive… And his leg skin is still intact?! But not the rest of his body… Inconsistency? Or did Toei not know what to do with his legs. Not only that, but his speedos survived! I guess it was just the front of his body that was done in.
This part here with Brook and the longarm guys… I love seeing these parts, I can’t really explain why. The part where they ask how he can read without any eyes… It seems that if Brook doesn’t make a “skull joke” about it, it’s actually a really sensitive subject matter.
Zoro’s a scary motherfucker… And yet he’s so freaking funny when he’s trying to figure out Luffy’s message! It sounds like he’s taking a dump! XD
Episode 513…
I’ve been looking forward to this episode… Because the Balckbeard Pirates are in it! But first we see Law lying about… That crew of his is too overly ambitious and don’t think things through… Law is more calm and calculating… He knows how the get things done! Bepo gets his own scene that didn’t exist in the manga… or did it?
Oh, I LOVE this part! X Drake’s dinosaur form (which isn’t a T-rex because he has three fingers instead of two) is always awesome to see! I wonder what the deal is with that winter island they’re on… This wasn’t in the manga… is the what Oda wanted to include in the manga? lol, those snowmen on top of the gate look like the kind of snowmen Luffy makes! That scene with the 18-guy was quick… I’d watch this episode over and over again just to see Drake’s dinosaur form, though… PLEASE let us see more of him, Oda!
Strange how Apoo had trouble with just one boar… They’re either pretty strong or Apoo isn’t as strong as some make him out to be… Personally, I think that compared to Luffy and his crew, he’s nothing. They’d be able to take out that many boars easily!
Funny how Apoo said the jump, even though he’s a Devil Fruit user and he’d be screwed if he landed in the water… Or maybe he knew they’d walk on the air?
YES! This is the part I’ve been waiting for! lol, Sanjuan Wolf’s so freaking funny! Talking in such a nonchalant tone with his complaints! And really? They tried to put Sanjuan Wolf on the raft? Oh fucking STUPID are these guys?! Shiryu’s got a good point, they don’t prepare for anything. They just step forth, expecting to either succeed or die. That’s… kind of moronic, especially when they’re using the whole “fate” excuse.
Bonney in bondage… Everyone loves it… Also, remember when we said Blackbeard’s the most pirate-y of the pirates in One Piece? Yeah, here’s another good example of that. Blackbeard offers Bonney to become “his woman”. Ew…
Also interesting to note that he says Bonney’s too weak to “officially” join his crew… A crew which consists of a sickly man who needs and equally sickly horse to get around. What does that say about him? Or Bonney for that matter? Really, though, Blackbeard knew Luffy was stronger then his bounty let on. Other supernovas, like Bonney and perhaps Apoo, aren’t as strong as Luffy, but then again, bounties don’t always represent strength…
I love how Blackbeard’s crew just cheers at seeing their captain getting kicked, and agree with him when he calls his crew “indecent”. I prefer rowdy, myself…
And really, did Blackbeard think the Navy will really make a deal with them? After Blackbeard nearly destroyed Marineford? Another example of why Blackbeard’s “plans” aren’t as brilliant as they seem to be…
Also weird how he doesn’t want to face off agaisnt Akainu. Has he lost confidence? Or is Akainu really so brutal that Blackbeard’s honestly scared to face him?
Anyway, I’m dying to know what Bonney’s history with Akainu, or perhaps the World Government is… I sincerely hop Oda explains that.
And Gecko Moria escaped! That DEFINITELY means we’ll see him again. And I can’t wait to see the day when we do! This scene also shows that Doflamingo doesn’t care the slightest about his Warlord status… He’s nuts, and he’ll prove it, too! Every scene he’s in he chews up the scenery, and I LOVE it!
That baby chick’s “peeee” is so adorable! X3
I wonder if Chopper really thought his “Chopper-mask” ploy would work… I mean, he came back on the same bird, and he just put on a mask and cape. Hell, his NAME is in his superhero name, how could they NOT recognize him? He could TRY and be a bit more clever… But then again, maybe he thought it would work because he thinks people are just as gullible as him. Sorry, Chopper, not quite. Also, I like how he says “ChoppER masku” instead of “ChoppA masuku”. Funny…
Did Chopper figure out that Usopp was Sogeking and think he could do the same thing? Sorry again, but only Chopper and Luffy fell for Usopp’s ploy, and everyone else just didn’t say anything to be nice. Unfortunately, these cavemen-like people aren’t so tactful.
I love this relationship with Chopper and the chick. They’re both so cute… X3
Either way, it’s good that Chopper has lots of new friends to be with for the time he’ll spend here… He’s got a long while before he meets up with the rest of the Straw Hat Pirates, so he’s going to make the most of it! Studying the plants and making new medicine!
Chopper’s eyes as the doors open… EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
Chopper’s dream-come-true! Living in a library full of books with valuable information!!!
Chopper also needs to learn how to keep his thoughts to himself. Really, Chopper’s the kind of guy who has a LOT… And I mean A LOT to learn about the world, and not just about medicine and fighting…
Hey look, they reanimated Chopper’s past instead of using old clips! …Looking back, how did Chopper get his pants?! Well whatever, I’m reminded of just how cruel everyone was to Chopper. Poor little reindeer…
If this is how they do Chopper’s final moments before the timeskip, I can’t WAIT to see what they do for everyone else!
Piece Together…
SMASHMATT202 STRIKES AGAIN with another Piece Together question! Actually, it’s been so long I forgot what I asked… Oh yeah, funny background events. Ah well. Also, it’s kind of a shame that the Zora’s Domain theme hadn’t crossed your minds… For those wondering, it’s this, check it out!:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VviXQyt8G-U
Captain Morgan isn’t in jail. Remember? He escaped! And maybe he didn’t show Don Krieg or Kuro because they’ll appear again in the story?
It SUCKS that Akainu’s going to be the next Fleet Admiral. It’s so obvious yet I loath the idea!
Gigant Jet Gatling?! My GOD does that sound badass!
Sonny Strait is amazing… If I could, I’d let him know.
Great podcast as usual! Nice blooper at the end!
Hey guys! Great episode! I know I’m a bit late, was on a One Piece break for a while cause of school, but its great to be back!
A little comment about Luffy’s “Color of Armament ” attacks, I think the color would most likely be black. I believe that Oda based this technique on Vulcanization. Vulcanization is when rubber (through a specific process) get converted into a more solid, and harder state. Some examples of vulcanized rubber vary from tires, hockey pucks, and even bowling balls. Which explains why his attacks are so much stronger, and why he can even use it as a means of defense. Just something I did some research on!
