On this episode of The One Piece Podcast we have no Manga Recap and we have no Anime Recap. So, instead, we decided to do something special. We invited J. Michael Tatum to help take your calls about One Piece, voice acting, and everything in between. After Tatum’s departure we have some news with Firecrouch. We round off with calls to the One Piece Podcast crew and a lot of interesting and thought-proving mathematics with our Piece Together segment. Next week we return, live from Otakon, with a Manga and Anime Recap and a lot of special treats.
At Otakon? Join us for pizza, One Piece, and prizes! RSVP here.

I’ll be away from technology for the next 8 weeks, so with no One Piece this week, that’ll be 9 weeks without it D:
At least there’s an awesome podcast to listen to
Great episode you guys, love it especially that prank caller lol. Maybe next time I can join in the fun of the live call in ^_^. Now I feel the need to watch Doctor Who this will please my friend Britney who is nagging me like crazy to watch it. I hope you guys have fun at Otakon ^_^.
J. Michael Tatum is awesome! Also, no manga or anime recaps mean I don’t have to watch or read anything beforehand! Taking in calls is an interesting twist, too.
Wait… “Banana me”? WHAT?!?! Did I miss something?!
Being God would be boring. Fun for a while, then it all goes downhill…
Steve Blum is awesome. Why hasn’t he voiced a character in One Piece yet?
I really need to check out Doctor Who sometime, but I can’t FIND the time.
My Grandma’s lives in Minnesota. My dad was born in Minnesota, and so was I. I currently live in New York.
I wish I could have been there for Pearl’s recording session… Wait, who’s Marny the Marine?
Wait… Mitch Mitchelson? The bully kid from the Powerpuff Girls?! Calling from his car? I didn’t even know he had a car!
Borders was going out of business? That sucks… Though nowadays I usually go to Barnes & Noble, since there aren’t any Borders near where I live.
Wait, Sabo’s VA does Naruto, too?! …Well, they’re both blonde.
It’s hard to compare Japan to America because they both have their strengths and flaws. Things that work and are popular in Japan won’t always be popular in America and vice versa, not because of how good the material is, but because of cultural differences. For example, The Legendary Starfy is an awesome series, but a lot of stuff in the games are overflowing with Japanese culture and jokes that just won’t make sense to the average American. Even One Piece has this stuff… no, scratch that, ESPECIALLY One Piece has this stuff. There are puns and jokes everywhere in the story, puns and jokes that would be difficult if not impossible to translate for an American audience. The Saldeath scene sticks out in my mind. His Japanese name is pronounced Sarudesu, which sounds like “I am a monkey” in Japanese. Obviously, no one is going to confuse Saldeath with “I am a monkey” in English, and Saldeath doesn’t really look like a monkey, so the joke sort of falls flat in English.
The guy who went to all that trouble to figure out the math of finding out the length, width, weight of Noah and then finding out the speed of Vander Decken’s throwing ability… He needs to send that to Eiichiro Oda and we need to see it in an SBS corner! Also, it doesn’t matter how much it weighs, the speed of the ship or whatever, Luffy will stop it, through shear determination. Because that’s how One Piece is, yo.
Also, how does Vander Decken’s power works? The same way all the other Devil Fruit powers work! MAGIC! Or something…
Why doesn’t the glove fly off his hand? Hmm… Well, what about Kuma’s gloves? Why don’t his Paw Paw Fruit powers effect the gloves? They’re probably the same kind of gloves… I’m going to guess they have seastone in them, just a little bit, since it would make sense.
I’d like to see all of the stories expanded… But really, I’d like to see Robin meet Dragon, and I really would like to see Sanji’s trials in the Kamabakka Kingdom. Chopper’s adventures would be cool, too, and Brook’s! Maybe they’ll include his praying scene…
Also, Robin’s episodes look weird. Really weird.
Which movie would I pick as an actual arc in the series? Well, obviously Strong World, since it features a main villain who’s actually mentioned in the main story. Plus it was written by Oda himself, so I think it would count either way.
Great podcast, and also the first one I downloaded from iTunes! WHOOPIE!
