Let’s do it!
Awesome episode guys, Truly enjoyed the manga recap it’s always a blast having Greg on and you were all especially funny. And I enjoyed having the west boys on for the anime recap it was different from you guys but tons of fun too. Again Seriously Greg I love having you on, the whole info on Oda working in a restaurant closely named to Baratie was so cool! As was that amazing interview you translated I can’t wait to hear the rest next week. I’m gonna miss you guys during your absence, study hard, enjoy life, & keep reading and watching One Piece. I’m sure the west side boys will do a great job ^_^.
nice episode very funny, an nice to have Greg on. I can’t wait for the rest of the recap
P.S. there is such a thing as a framing town, not what you guys were thinking but good try
Sorry about the confusion, Doldrums…If you don’t mind my asking, what is a framing town?
We believed it was/is a typo for ‘farming town’.
Went ahead and bought a DVD as you guys have been suggesting, Season Two, Sixth Voyage but I’m certain I’ll enjoy it.
I just preordered the first DVD set with episodes 1-26. So glad they’re finally starting to release the right number of episodes for a good price.
A One Piece GPA system? Dang, yo…
manga recap…
Lego colorspread… ‘Kay. lol at you complaining about Franky’s arms and Chopper’s new hat! I like Brook’s new Lego hat! Yeah, you’re right, though, Franky’s arms have gotten slightly smaller…
Baby Shirahoshi is so cute! X3
I like Tiger’s answer. “What in the world did you see on your last adventure?” “…Humans!” Otohime can tell that his heart’s been torn to shreds by the shear amount of hatred he holds for humanity. I don’t blame him, really… Kind of reminds me of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. Never played it? PLAY IT! It’s for the Nintendo GameCube.
Otohime giving Shirahoshi a little kiss and the pinkie thing… SO ADORABLE!
Otohime does what she does for the sake of future generations. That’s kind of smart, and it against reminds me of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. How history can be twisted and contorted depending on who tells it…
And here’s a good example of such a thing; a young Hody Jones and his friends, thinking Fisher Tiger only freed Fishman slaves and are purposefully killing humans. Little do they know that he freed ALL slaves, not just Fishmen, and Fisher Tiger gave specific orders NOT to kill humans to his crew. Also, little Zeo and little Daruma are really cute! It’s also surreal to see Dosun and Ikaros Much, both huge and intimidating Fishmen, as cute little guys… Seeing Hody Jones as a kid, too, disturbs me, because he’s like SUCH an complete monster now, it makes me wish he was raised better!
OMG, Hody Jones DOES look like Nelson Muntz!
Jimbei was freaking BRUTAL back then… He also has a habit of holding beaten guys by the head/neck.
It’s weird seeing Macro looking badass, since he’s such a wuss normally…
We see that Fisher Tiger takes all the valuables and food supplies, but decides NOT to kill any of them… Except Arlong, who, even though he criticized Jimbei for being too brutal, has no problem killing a guy for “being a filthy human”.
Arlong’s been established from the get-go that he’s a horrible monster. Nothing can change that. In a way it’s kind of a good thing that he started out as a bad egg, and that Jimbei didn’t really like him. It doesn’t really make us sympathize, but instead, it makes us realize why Jimbei regretted “unleashing Arlong into the East Blue”.
It’s also interesting that we see a younger Kizaru (or should I say “Borsalino”?) and Strawberry. Yeah, nice hair that Strawberry.
The thing where Tiger scolds Arlong and Jimbei is cool, because it shows just how much a superior Tiger is. And while Jimbei still respects his decision, he gives reasonable explanations for why he fights to kill. They intend to kill us, so we fight back with the same amount of force. Tiger, on the other hand, while he still loathes humans with all his being, respects Otohime’s ideals, particularly about future generations, and knows that if they terrorize the sea, people will get the wrong impression of Fishmen…
ROFL, I’D LOVE A JIMBEI MUPPET!!! Anyway…
Fisher Tiger now explains what the Sunny Pirates really are. Unlike what Hody and his friends thought, the Sunny Pirates are all about liberation, not just specifically for Fishmen, but for all those oppressed by the horrors of the World Government.
Arlong, on the other hand, is just an arrogant douchebag, in a similar vain to Hody Jones. He seems to think that if they just put them in their place once and for all, then the cycle of hate will stop. You know, a young idiotic point of view that has no idea how the real world works. He doesn’t have the skills and the resources to change th world like that (Dragon does, but unlike Arlong, he’s actually doing GOOD). His views will only hold the species back and continue the cycle of hatred. Tiger (and Jimbei to some extend) know this, and THAT’S why he gets punished more. Although he only gets a dope slap, which I think he deserves a bit more.
You bring up an interesting point about Fisher Tiger, though… It seems he still hates humans and might be tempted by Arlong’s words…
It’s also interesting to see Arlong angry about Fisher Tiger and Jimbei getting bounties but not him… Ironic, though, as later on, he bribes the Marines to keep his bounty low so that he wouldn’t be judged as much of a threat!
Also… yeah, that panel with Hody Jones and his friends isn’t that well drawn…
That Koala girl… I thought she was a boy at first, judging from her hair and attire… Not to mention, I wondered what would happen if she was going to be with the Sunny Pirates… Clearly, they’re all a bit “eh” when it comes to humans, but still, I sort of knew that Fisher Tiger had a soft spot for former slaves.
I didn’t think the smile was THAT creepy. I even thought it was cute. That was until I found out that she’s FORCED to smile, even when she’s hurt… And she kept saying don’t kill me… Her neck never really bothered me, until you pointed it out! D:
This sort of left a bad impression on Arlong, I think. Thanks for Koala, he probably thought that humans will be satisfied if given basic needs like food, shelter and cloths, which is how he thought he could control Nami… Sort of…
Also, I TOTALLY love Arlong’s bowler hat!
As if the image of her smiling was creepy, here she’s literally bleeding, and she’s still smiling! Not doing anything except cleaning and smiling! GOD That’s so fucking creepy! Damn those World Nobles, making her look so creepy like that…
Now that I think about it, hearing she was a slave tot he World Nobles had no effect on me either. To me, I was more concerned about how much of a fucking BITCH she was. Even if she wasn’t showing any signs of weakness, it’s still pretty cruel… But then again, if she went through what Koala went through… I can’t really blame her. At least she didn’t end up perpetually smiling like her.
Another good point. He hated humans for what they’ve done to Fishmen, but now he’s seen what humans do to their own kind…
We find out later on that that guy talking to Jimbei is called “Aladdin”. How fitting.
That panel where it looks like Koala’s screaming is kind of scary, but it’s nice to see her make a face that isn’t that creepy smile…
Whoa… That was creepy… When she woke up, her eyes were insane, but she still had that creepy smile! Oh well, at least she cries for the first time in… probably her life.
I love Greg’s explanations.
Anime recap…
I always wondered about that cat… And I’ve heard the cat called “Puss in Boots”, but I didn’t realize that’s where it’s from!
One of the guys that Ace attacked kind of looked like Dadan…
I guess they’re emphasizing the fact that they’re facing a guy with a sword, but to me, I’ve seen SO many kids fight guys with all kinds of weapons, that to me, it doesn’t register as a big deal…
Ah-HA! Here we see Ace’s first (canon) instance of never backing away from a fight. A trait that would ultimately lead to his downfall. Here, though, it’s okay… At least, we KNOW it’s okay, since Luffy and Ace made it out of there at least.
The irony of Prochemy Penisface saying he’ll quite if he’s beaten by a bunch of kids… And when Bluejam sees him beaten, he killed him. At least we assume he kills him. It doesn’t matter, we never see or hear from him again, but it’s best to assume that Porchemy Penisface doesn’t live after Bluejam finds him.
Bluejam, incidentally, it pretty cool, IMO. I know he can’t be THAT important since he’s in Luffy’s flashback and we haven’t heard from him sense, but as the flashback goes on, I see cooler parts to him… As well as a really stupid part to him.
It’s Ace REALLY just taping his pipe back together? Why not steal a better weapon or something? Eh, I guess they just like pipes more.
Ace raises a good point, though… Is Luffy THAT desperate for a friend? Why doesn’t he just go back to Windmill Village? There are LOADS of people who like him there! Or did Garp threaten him to stay where he is? Either way, it’s kind of silly to me that he’d risk his life for a guy that didn’t even like him back. Kind of makes me think of him as a loser, in that way… Real pathetic.
Although, this is more of a reason for Ace to live than for Luffy to live. Luffy’s reasonings are kind of stupid, but Ace thinks that, if Luffy wants him to be alive and be his friend (or brother), then he’ll stay alive, no matter what people think of him…
lol, Luffy’s actually getting mad at Ace… It’s like they’re brothers already! With Sabo as the middle man refereeing the two.
WHOA! I didn’t even NOTICE that there was a dog with the Dadan Family… I thought it was a bear at first, when I saw the close-up of its face! Also, is Dadan really that thick that she needs to count how many kids she’s in charge of? Even if it’s for comedic effect?
Oh look, Sabo just farted… 3 times. How classy. :/
Ah whatever, little boys are little boys.
A very manly “old woman”! XD Also, Sabo’s voice is adorable! And it seems that Dadan really CAN’T turn down a request. Incredible…
Seeing Luffy, Ace, and Sabo all hang out like this is really cute… I love seeing the three of them hang out. It’s something we were deprived of in the manga, mostly only seen through a few dialogue-free panels… I can’t wait to see what the anime does!
Ace chews with his mouth open. How rude. In fact, it almost looked like he was trying to say something… but didn’t.
So, Sabo and Ace are the only ones who ate that fish… Probably because they caught it themselves… You’d think at least Sabo would share some of his. Oh wait, he did! …He gave him the tail-fin. lol, more toilet humor!
I never saw or read Oliver Twist, but I’ve been told a number of times that Sabo both looks and has a similar backstory to the character “Dodger”.
Luffy’s pathetic now, and while some people might complain, Luffy’s able to use his rubber body in many unique ways…
Oh wow, Luffy’s already thought up his Gum-Gum Balloon! He uses that quite a bit, and it is indeed useful…
Too bad most of his techniques are really that “cool” so much as they are strange and silly-looking… Poor Luffy! XD
HOLY FUCKING SHIT, LUFFY JUST GOT FUCKING EATEN OH MY GOD! I was SO not expecting that, and it’s so freaking scary to see Luffy at such a young age getting swallowed alive! D:
Oh well, at least the eater gets eaten… Actually, that might be just as disturbing.
Oh the filler shenanigans those three will get into! XD
And more filler with the Dadan Clan. These guy’s are pretty funny… Although, they are kind of spineless to some extent, we’ll see just how awesome they are eventually.
Wow, who’d of thought the Dadan Clan were as bad a bunch of liars as Luffy.
Oda interview…
I like how much emphasis Oda puts in character development. Then again, after reading One Piece, it seems pretty obvious at this point.
Piece Together…
Personally, I think that Big Mam’s candy factory is just there to show that it’s now under her control instead of Whitebeard’s. But who knows, Oda’s been known to surprise us.
lol, “Lets do it!” You say that right before every segment, it’s funny to hear you end on that! STRAWBERRY!
