‘Nother great one fellas!
First of all the name for this episode is hilarious XD! I watched the actual scooby doo show so I cracked up like crazy ^_^. It was great to have and awesome chapter and an equally awesome anime episode together. And as if that wasn’t good enough we got a new BEAUTIFUL Opening too!!! Thanks so much for reading my thoughts on the opening by the way ^_^. So yes truly enjoyed this episode and the singing at the end *giggles* that was cute X3. The next couple of podcast episodes are gonna be AWESOME XD!!!
I heard someone say these were the last episodes the Funi has, but i read an old article(from 2010) saying that season 4 is confirmed, im confused lol
I appreciate the effort guys. Great episode!
Song jokes, win.
Manga recap…
Gaimon and Sarfunkel HAR HAR HAR! BTW, did Gaimon’s hair get even BIGGER than before?
Oh yeah, Bubble Coral! I forgot that we saw that in this chapter…
fumi-e… I learned about that because of this chapter. Apparently, in ancient Japan, in order to tell who was Christian, they were forced to stomp on a cross or something… Here, it’s a little different, but the idea is still the same.
Ironically it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy. If they say humans and fishmen can never co-exist, then it will be so… Someone has to brake that trend, and sometimes, even FORCE them to make amends…
Seriously, though, I fucking love Zeo. He’s so damn cool…
So the Fishmen and Mermen assume that Shirahoshi was obviously FORCED to to aid Luffy and say she’ll be back for dinner. I mean, of course, obviously. There’s no other explanation… oh wait, yeah there is. Caribou shows up again. I’ll be honest, I COMPLETELY forgot this part in the chapter. This is the last time we’ll see Caribou… so far.
Okay, so Sanji’s not only got a giant tea cup, but he’s balancing it on his leg… Which is in a position that no one can possible do! I like how Nami shut shim up by saying he’s ruining the mood. Yeah, he is, even if he is back to normal, just shut up Sanji, this is important.
I DO remember when Yosaku talked about the Seven Warlords. He said that Arlong was on the same level as Jimbei. I think he means that they’re either equally as strong or they command equal amounts of respect. Given how reliable Johnny and Yosaku are as sources of information, I’d take that with a grain of salt. But Jimbei and Arlong DID know each other…
…Oh wait, I didn’t notice this, but Luffy is drinking Nami’s tea! XD
And now we see Jimbei… He’s now meeting face-to-face with someone who not only suffered at the hands of Arlong, but was basically his own personal slave, as Hachi attains to. Quick flashback of Nami’s past summarized (I love it, if only because it’s so damn tragic, ESPECIALLY with the thing about the food!).
I thought this “park” thing was a nice touch. I had no idea that Oda had that planned out back then, but then again, knowing Oda, I’m sure he always had it in mind.
It really is surreal, not just seeing young Hachi, but a young ARLONG (and Chew and Kuroobi). I guess that’s why the title of this episode is called “A Pup named Arlong Crew” (I loved that show, BTW, watched it all the time as a kid).
The Little Mermaid reference… It truly is fitting for this sort of story, though.
I like these little tid-bits on what happened to Fishman Island, and how it all comes back to Whtiebeard and why Jimbei owes him so much.
Even Chopper’s serious/sad face is cute. :3
We’ve got two types… Queen Otohime, the Martin Luther King Jr./Robert A. Heimlein/Professor X/Dumbledore type of figure who’s all about giving peace a chance, and Fisher Tiger, the Malcom X/Ayn Rand/Magneto/Voldemort type of figure that’s all about defending his fellow brethern… although in regard of Magneto and Voldemort, Hody Jones and Arlong fit that type more suitably.
I didn’t notice Hancock and her sisters at first, but still, someone in an SBS corner noticed it, and really, it’s not that big a deal. What IS a big deal is that Luffy recognizes the name, sort of… He heard the name through Boa Hancock’s story. Then again, it was two years ago, so I won’t blame him for forgetting it.
…It DOES look like marijuana on Jimbei’s coat!
I actually never expected to hear from Fisher Tiger again… I guess I should have known better. Fisher Tiger freaking rocks!
So does Jimbei. I wouldn’t mind seeing him in the Straw Hat Pirates.
Opeing 14 recap…
I love this opening. The music is great, the images are well-animated, and I like the call-backs to Luffy’s youth and his memories with his crew… It DOES suck that so many anime openings are so spoiler-y… This one was a little light on the spoilers… Sure we saw Sabo, but we’re about to find out who he is!
Anime recap…
It’s funny how they introduced this scary-looking Corvo mountain, then switch to the goofy music with Luffy and Garp arguing! Also, Garp should be grateful that Shanks saved his grandson’s life! Instead, he decides to lake Luffy away from the peaceful Windmill Village, and bring him to the far more dangerous Mt. Corvo. Because that’s what a loving Grandfather would do! Actually, I think this episode is based on the first manga chapter I heard on this podcast! Yeah, over a year ago, you made fun of this at the end of that podcast episode! Fun times…
Fun times to be had here, too, with Luffy being strong enough to life a tree right out of its roots!
lol, Luffy runs off… And now we see Dadan for the first time in the anime. She’s a funny individual. And so are those two other guys, Dogra and Magra.
What’s Garp thinking, though, leaving Luffy in the hands of these guys! Then again, he left the infant Ace in the hands of these guys, though to be fair, Garp couldn’t really do anything else, since Ace was Gol D. Roger’s son, and he can’t be caught associated with him…
Ew, spit! Ace sure is a jackass when he was a kid. I guess he’s gotten used to the idea that everyone hates him, so he’ll just hate people back. It’s a stupid idea, but he’s a kid, so whatever.
The Dadan Family acts so goofy, I love them already!
Oh, I see… Luffy remembers when Shanks didn’t get made when he was made fun of, so Luffy just kind of shrugs it off, as well as wipe it off.
Wow, the Dadan bandits seem pretty intimidating at firs… Until they find out he’s Garp’s grandson… And that he’s going to live with them. It gets even more hectic when they fight over food! I REALLY like this episode!
Was that a bowl of rice, or a bowl of salt that Luffy ate? Luffy hates mountain bandits after meeting Higuma… I wonder, though, if mountain bandits are expanded beyond Higuma and Dadan…
Dadan acts mean to Luffy, and we get a bad first impression of her… But she’ll grow on you, really. The way she taunts Luffy with that meat is actually kind of funny. Everything she does is funny, more than actually cruel. Especially since Luffy’s actually been treated similarly by Garp once. XD
Little Luffy is so cute-OH SHIT! Another reusing of an old episode… An episode that DIDN’T have widescreen, so it’s got those little bars…
Now I’m sitting there wondering… WHY THE FUCK DID ACE DO THAT?! I don’t get it, why was Ace being so cruel to Luffy at first?! I get that people have been telling him that he doesn’t deserve to live, but Luffy’s being friendly to him and wants to be friends? Why the Hell is he trying to kill him like that?! Yeah, seriously, WHAT! THE! FUCK!? …You’d think he’d be a little nicer to Garp’s grandson… :/
And here’s another bad first impression of Dadan. She’s drunk, and she doesn’t fully realize what she’s saying… Indeed it’s kind of Garp’s own fault for leaving the life of his grandson in the care of a bunch of unruly mountain bandits. Besides, Luffy wandered off on his own, so they can’t really be to blame for what happens to him. And of course, Ace just so happens to hear Dadan’s drunken rant… And of course, he doesn’t realize she’s drunk… I GUESS poor Ace, but then again, he nearly killed Luffy for NO FUCKING REASON AT ALL, so I’m a little iffy on what Ace is feeling.
It’s nice that Luffy didn’t say it was Ace that knocked him at the bottom of the ravine… Unfortunately that’s not enough to get Ace to like him. lol, Luffy falls asleep almost immediately, and Dadan’s surprised by that! XD
lol, Dadan’s brushing her teeth, and Luffy’s being a little brat! Magra’s catchphrase is now “Easy, easy boss.”
Ace really needs to take Luffy’s persistence into account… Did he really think that Luffy wouldn’t come to rescue him at Marineford, when Luffy continuously followed him and tried to be his friend when they first met?
Even though Ace continuously tried to have Luffy killed while he followed him, it’s a nice way of training for Luffy. Survival. No better way to keep yourself alive and get stronger. But you’d think that Ace would be more accepting of Luffy after chasing him down for 2 months! BTW, lol at Dadan smoking more cigarettes as time goes on.
lol, Luffy’s bee-stung face… And that smile! XD
Holy SHIT that’s a big tiger! Like, it’s bigger than an actual person, what’s up with that?!
lol, Shere Kahn and Baloo! It’s funny because there’s also a tiger and a bear in this episode!
Whoa… It almost seemed like Ace was going to come save Luffy for a moment there… Oh well. Luffy managed to crawl away from that one…
Amazing how Luffy managed to laugh that off… Then again, maybe that’s how Luffy managed to laugh off times where he nearly died.
I love the different shirts Luffy wears. I also think it’s funny how at first the end of the forest shines gold, but it turns out it’s just a giant mountain of trash.
Season 3 fifth voyage…
The G8 arc? I thought it was alright. It DEFINITELY isn’t a bad filler arc, but I don’t think that it’s as amazing as people made it out to be. I like the filler character Drake’s appearance, and his role in this arc. Johnathan’s cool, too, but the fact that he’s AKAINU’S protege is kind of jarring… One good thing, though, as you all pointed out, is that there’s NO LITTLE KID! AT ALL! None to be found. Thank God for that.
Piece together…
When I heard of Candy Island, I immediately thought of Candied Island, and Flapjack, Captain K’nuckles and Bubbie! XD
lol, Arlong Crew.
