I would love to see a “Toriko” simulcast. If FUNimation got that then they could air the crossover.
I second your thought firecrouch. I love seeing Toriko finally getting the respect it diserves. Toriko is usually one of the manga who’s new chapters I look forward to reading every week. It’s kinda sad FUNimation didn’t simulcast the crossover, though, because I thought it was episode 492? But anyways I just want to say you guys did a great job as always and have a good rest of the week. I hope that AP gets fixed soon, too.
It IS episode 492 but Funimation doesn’t have the rights to Toriko or its characters.
Awesome Podcast you guys The double manga and double anime recaps were amazing ^_^. Seriously loved it and I really enjoyed the Toriko x One Piece chapter Luffy was sooo adorable X3 But I like the DB one better cause their was so much more character interaction. And I can’t wait to see what next weeks chapter will hold with what Jimbei said, Until next Monday boys ^_~!
Recently, more precisely after the whole “35 Dollars” Fundraiser I’ve noticed that quality of the episodes have dropped drastically. And by quality I mean your performance. The only reason I started listening to these podcasts to begin with was primarily due to the fact that you guys you were all extremely excited and energetic even about the most mundane things as long as they related to One Piece. However, the vibe has completely changed from “Yes, that’s AWESOME” to “w/e i’m emp /wrist, I don’t give a fuck. Why are we even doing this?”
So yea, if you’re no longer a One Piece fan or no longer an eager One Piece fan. I’d suggest dropping out before it’s too late. However, If you still wanna do this. Then do it RIGHT! Like you used to do. I want more excitement, more energy, and more optimism.
TIGER – WINNING – BLOOD!
Hi Draconian!
Granted I haven’t listened to an ep in about two weeks so I haven’t heard anything but given the material of 618 and 619, there really wasn’t anything to get excited about.
There have been bits and pieces of entertainment and things to get excited about for the future drizzled here and there but 90% of what we’ve been subjected to since arriving on FMI has been exposition. As of the end of 620 we’ve FINALLY reached a point where Oda’s months of vomiting information about the setting at high-speed will finally pay off. I’ve actually been bored with the main story for some time now and the most exciting part has been the cover stories.
Now, I can’t speak for everyone but that’s just me. I find it hard to get excited when we’re in week 19 of just being told what are essentially the ‘rules’ of the arc.
manga recap…
It’s Boodle and Chou-Chou!!! Didn’t think we’d see them again, either.
Brook’s got a Bubble helment? Why? It’s only covering his head, so the sea water’s still going to effect him… Plus, he doesn’t really need to breath, since he’s already dead… Just seems kind of pointless.
Underwater Kamehameha wave! XD
It’s Hoe, the whale! I love that whale!!!
Usopp isn’t doing anything.. I guess he can’t do anything underwater… Plus Zoro’s out of breath and Brook’s useless, so it looks like they’re screwed. BTW, it IS the Minister of the Right.
When I read Jinbe saying “Luffy-kun”, I thought of how he sounded in the anime, all grumbly and such. Not to mention, he said he barely recognized him. It hasn’t been that long, has it? Only 2 years…
Also, Jinbe’s delayed reaction is probably one of the first comical thing we’ve seen Jinbe do! I kind of like that, that he’s not all seriousness and such. It’s also interesting to see that Jinbe didn’t know what happened to Hachi ever since Arlong was defeated… I suppose it’s nice they met up again after (what I can assume is) a long time apart.
Well, it’s a good thing Chopper said Sanji’s back to his old self seeing as he’s the only one paying attention to Sanji’s condition, and he say’s he’s back to normal, it must be official. Seeing the most beautiful creature in the world (and maybe having some of that okama blood in him) must have done the trick.
A brief side joke about Luffy confusing Franky’s explanation of Den’s presence… Come to think of it, Den doesn’t do much else other than coat the Thousand Sunny… At least what I’ve seeen, going ahead 20 or so chapters…
Nami’s here! Perfect! Everything’s set up for Jinbe’s big message!
One Piece x Toriko…
I also have never read Toriko… But isn’t it weird that we’re getting a One Piece crossover with a relatively new manga series? Eh… From what I know, the main character is Goku with blue short hair, and he loves to eat meat. So Luffy would get along well with him… Personally, I’d rather stick to the One Piece/Dragon Ball crossover, that’s just AWESOME!
Anyway, about this special…
How did Luffy get in that tree? I guess it doesn’t matter, he’s in his own personal heaven. It’s raining meat!!!
I like how Luffy swallows all that meat then reverts back to his normal size… I guess the whole menu thing is something from Toriko, and it’s only funny if I’ve read it. Eh, maybe now I will. lol, talking like Beaker. Except it’s “meep” not “meat”.
WHOA! The different between Oda and whoever created Toriko’s style is really jarring! Seriously, it’s like SO DIFFERENT!
And wouldn’t you know it, a Devil Fruit… I wonder what kind of power it has… Either way, everyone who’s eaten a Devil Fruit knows they taste horrible!
And isn’t it weird that Toriko knows who Luffy is? How interesting… lol, Luffy’s face!
“Capture Level 1″? Now I’m REALLY interested! This sounds like some sort of video game? And I can totally get behind that!
It’s interesting how different both art styles are, so that we can instantly tell who drew what. These creatures are so weird, though, it makes me wonder if the creatures in Toriko are just like them.
Yeah, when it comes to Devil Fruits, as soon as any part of the fruit touches you’re mouth, the power is transferred into you, and you will never be able to swim after that point. Also, eating two Devil Fruits will kill you. …Usually…
Luffy and Toriko both make creepy faces.
YEAH! Luffy’s friends finally arrive! Toriko’s friends, too, but I don’t know them.. I can’t wait to see how they all react with each other! That’s the best part about crossovers!
Actually, I like Sanji’s reaction to “eating a Devil Fruit”. As a fellow cook, he would know about how to make great-tasting dishes.
So wait… Toriko’s goal in the life is to find God… AND HAVE HIM AS HIS MAIN COURSE?! Jumping Jiminy, I have GOT to find out what this series is about!!!
So it’s a nice ending… But it turns out that swirly looking fruit is actually just shit… Ummm, what kind of animal makes THAT kind of shit?!
Anyway, nice little crossover… I STILL need to check out the One Piece/Dragon Ball one.
Interesting, that this little special COULD be considered canon, because everyone is in-character and it seemed like it could happen!
Anime recap episode 490…
Okay, so snails all around the world are acting weird. They really need to perfect their version of the radio in the One Piece world…
So, um… The Marines all celebrate Marine HQ’s supposed “complete” victory. Yeah, great for you guys, but if only you were there, you’d see the devastation… Some of the Marines even DREAMS of serving at Marine HQ. If only he knew… Then again, the WG needs eager young Marines like them, to follow orders without question, and to die for the WG’s cause.
The Shabody people are celebrating that the war is finally over, but they know that danger still looms… But for now, let them celebrate their supposed “safety”. They cheer not only for the Marines, but for the World Government. I bet if the Five Elders saw this, they’d be all. “Good… Goooooood…”
I love seieng X Drake again… I get the feeling that he knows the inner-workings of the Marines, and probably became a pirate because he disagreed with them…
I’d also like to know who Bonney is talking about… She’s saying something about tracking “him” down… Is she, perhaps, referring to Blackbeard?
The words Apoo is saying intrigues me… Law, like Kid, is said to be known for his brutality… So why DID he save Luffy? I have no clue… Also, Basil Hawkin’s cat-head crewmate.
I like Kid’s speech here. He really knows what it takes to be a brutal, ruthless pirate! He also seems to understand the inner-workings of the pirate world. Thanks to him for revealing all the Four Emperor’s nicknames… Yeah, since he said Whitebeard and Red-Hair, and since we recently found out Big Mam is also just a nickname, “Kaido” is probably also a nickname. Can’t wait to find out more about him!
News Coos! YAY! (that rhymes)
Yeah, people think that just because Whitebeard (who honestly didn’t do much to threaten the peace and stability of the world) is dead, things will get better. On the contrary, things will only get worse from here… As they find out quickly… Those Marines, in an effort to show off their new-found inflated ego, fail to mention certain… details… But the pirates know better. With Whitebeard gone, his territory is up for grabs. And now the One Piece has been re-confirmed by Whitebeard, more pirates will set sail in search of it!
Oh boy, here comes EVERYONES “favorite” character… Just as an example of how Whitebeard’s death is effecting the world negatively… Wow, he’s got the same footstep noises as Heavy Point Chopper!
Oh yeah, I ESPECIALLY loved this part in the manga… I’ll wait for it, though… Seeing Brandnew again was a real treat. He’s some guy, isn’t he? Anyway, turns out Magellan’s alive, but just barely, and intends to kill himself for letting so many dangerous criminals escape… I don’t really blame him, but still, he’s a powerful and imposing man, and they’ll need someone like him for the future. The flashback to Blackbeard in Impel Down is awesome, though… How all the prisoners, who are supposedly so terrible that they’ve effectively been erased from history, act just like regular prisoners and don’t seem that dangerous at all… Actually, the four that make it out on top don’t seem to be begging to get out at all… Probably because they know they’ll win the fight within their cells. I like how we only see Sanjuan Wolf’s mouth, since we don’t know how someone so big could even fit instead Impel Down.
lol, pwngoat eating Brandnew’s coat! XD
The fact that there were some survivors from Impel Down Level 6 that managed to escape is REALLY bad… I wonder if they faked being dead so they could escape without having to join Blackbeard’s crew… Either way, I wonder if we’ll see any of them in the near future… Or even in the distant future!
Oh… This is it. This is when Sengoku realizes just how corrupt the World Government is. They’re willing to sacrifice the lives of the many in order to protect their own competence. They don’t want the world to know they let such a disgrace occur… They don’t want people to know that Blackbeard let free Level 6 criminals… Mostly because according to them, there isn’t supposed to be a Level 6. That the prisoners who were down there never existed at all… They made sure of that, I suppose. And they want to keep it that way. Sengoku… doesn’t agree.
Oh yes, can’t forget about this… Gecko Moria, for the crime of being too much of a pushover, you’ve hereby been striped of your title as Warlord of the Sea and sentenced to death. You REALLY should of seen this coming, you lazy fatass. Doflamingo’s tongue also looks kind of weird.
Anyway, back to the Yellow Submarine. Bepo’s being annoying as usually… And those two guys whom we never see their eyes, they’re pretty annoying, too. Actually, Bepo’s more annoying. Still, being a polar bear, he must be feeling pretty hot… Luckily, they’ll surface soon.
So Hancock’s made it up to them. I LOVE Salome, he’s such an awesome snake!
It’s funny how Hancock didn’t even go all out cruel on Bepo, and yet he still felt all depressed when she talked down to him.
And here’s Ivankov! Seeing these characters all in one place is so bizarre. The most beautiful woman in the world, a queer queen, the “Surgeon of Death”, a polar bear, and soon enough, a whale shark fish-man. Actually, for someone who got punched through the chest, his “wound” doesn’t look really bloody… Either way, the way he worries about Luffy even with that wound just shows how much he cares about Luffy, about as much as Ace or even Whitebeard… JIMBEI JOINING THE STRAW HAT PIRATES, FTW!
It’s interesting that Jimbei and Ivankov are shocked at Hancock’s recommendation of keeping Luffy on Amazon Lily, yet Law doesn’t react at all… I guess he’s just too badass to be surprised. Still, it’s a sound plan, and Hancock, despite who intense love-sickness, can still think clearly enough to formulate a plan to help Luffy’s recovery.
Episode 491…
Finally, the reality of the global situation is dawning upon the people. Pirates all across the world are rallying up and taking the world by storm, now that Whitebeard proclaimed One Piece to truly exist…
Yeah, apparently all the efforts of the Marines and the effect the war was SUPPOSED to have on piracy, is all in vain because of Whitebeard’s last words… Unfortunately, while those last words weren’t made public by the World Government, it spread like wildfire in the pirate community, and thus caught everyone off guard. Yeah, I should feel bad, but I’m kind of glad for this, because it shows just how gullible the people are when obeying the World Government and following only its words.
And now we FINALLY see everyone’s “favorite” character, Brownbeard, instead of just being implied last episode. Yep, the effects of Whitebeard’s death is shown through him pretty much.
I’m surprised to see such big individuals jump with such grace like that… I’m even MORE surprised that Boa Hancock is actually APOLOGIZING to them. With her sister I can understand, but the others…
And so we say good-bye to Ivankov… And don’t worry, Jimbei, you’ll definitely help out Luffy. You might not realize it yet, buy you’ll save him in the best way possible.
I always thought their relationship was weird… Jimbei and Ivankov…
It must have looked really weird, to have that yellow machine following “Snake Princess-sama”‘s ship… Not to mention, everyone except Law and Bepo are excited about being there. Bepo because his dreams of meeting a nice “girl bear” were shot down, and Law because he’s just badass like that. It’s interesting that the ship was attacked at first, but then stopped when they realized that Hancock allowed it.
I see that Hancock’s changed back to her old cloths again… Okay…
Nyon is fine with Luffy, because she’s seen Luffy’s resolve and knows he’s not a bad man. But the others… Oh yes, Law’s crew… They’ve got dirty minds all of them. Except for Law and Bepo. They’re not allowed.
Wow… For Nyon to actually interrupt and SHOUT at Hancock. That takes balls… women balls.
I really really REALLY want to see more of Marguerite, somehow!
Wow. I didn’t realize Law had so many people in his crew… At least they get some compensation by seeing some of the Amazons as they bring them food.
That woman with the black spiked hair (I forget her name, but she’s voiced by Robin’s VA) is REALLY scary. And she really dislikes men. These guys are pretty much what she envisioned men to be like.
And Marguerite talks to Law, I like that. The two people that have the closest ties to Luffy at the moment talking to each other.
You know, with Hancock constantly worrying and not eating and getting sick over Luffy, one has to wonder how she’ll survive when Luffy eventually goes to the New World.
And so Luffy finally awakens… I wonder… Luffy will likely remember the two people who brought about Ace’s demise… Blackbeard and Akainu… He’ll definitely get his revenge one day… One day…
Until then he has a totally mental breakdown while he’s still recovering!
God damn, that thing with Luffy’s one eye was creepy! Also, destroying Law’s ship is not a good way to repay them to helping you, Luffy.
Oh wow, were the Amazons keeping an eye on the men the whole time they were there?
I like how Nyon looks back and recall show Luffy was just going to be a small ant jumping into a storm of people out of his league. And yet despite the truth in that, he managed to make some valuable allies, and even earn Whitebeard’s respect! So much so that everyone supported Luffy when he rescued Ace, and protected him from Akainu’s pursuit. It all leads back to Luffy policy, if he doesn’t even try, he’ll regret it for the rest of his life.
I can’t believe these guys… Saying they’d risk being turned to stone just to look at the women there. Bah… I DO feel sorry for Bepo, though. Those guys were pretty mean to him there. At least let him dream of a nice female bear.
Oh God, his wounds are opening! Jimbei, stop him!
Wow, even the memories of Ace’s death cause Luffy pain!
Luffy strength continues to amaze me… Look at how he lifts that boulder with ease. He seems to be the kind of guy who only shows what he’s really got when he’s angry or under stress.
I remember hearing people complain about Luffy’s crying faces, about how we can’t take anything seriously because his crying faces are just so goofy.
Luffy really does sound like a crying baby, but then again, when you think of how long they’ve known each other, and what they’ve been through… I don’t blame him in the slightest.
