The Unofficial One Piece Podcast – PTA Gives Reason To Praise One Piece

According to a Japanese national PTA initiated survey, One Piece is the most popular single comic series averaged between elementary to middle school children. Furthermore the animation is the 15th most liked OVERALL television program averaged between the same age groups. The most popular reasons given for enjoying the series were, in order from first to third, ‘It’s entertaining’, ‘I can talk about it with friends’ and ‘It relieves stress or lightens my mood’.

The only animation to beat out One Piece in likability was Inazuma 11. One Piece even managed to beat out a cultural icon like Doraemon which was in 16th place. Furthermore, regarding manga series, while Dragon Ball was ranked 15th by ‘What Parents Think Their Kids Like to Read’ it was actually ranked 24th by the children themselves when asked ‘What Comics Do You Like to Read?’

What was “One Piece” on the list for what parents don’t want their kids to see? What was it ranked for comics parents think their kids like to read?

Seeing as I didn’t notice the Bleach anime anywhere in my two hour browsing of the 200+ page document, it’s possible they care as much about Bleach as the rest of the world with common sense.

Again, BROWSING of TWO HUNDRED page document. So it could have been tucked away somewhere in PAST charts, but not that I saw.

Rankings only went to 15. And One Piece ranked (I believe) exactly the same on the questionaire to parents.

Wait, it says “Dragonball” was at 15 for the parents list for what they think kids like to read and “Naruto” was at 15 for what parents don’t like. So where does that leave “One PIece”?

Hey Firecrouch! They were two very different sections. The document is MASSIVE and filled with a TON of charts even dealing with similar material. So to answer your question, specifically in the chart related to, “What parents think their kids like”, DB was 15 and OP was still at the top of actual series as I recall correctly. I say ‘actual series’ because the question actually included magazines in addition to series. So while OP was ACTUALLY in 4th place, the only things ahead of it were actual full magazines, first place going to Weekly JUMP.

Nice to know that One Piece is popular among children in Japan! Basically, parents don’t want their kids to watch emo anime like Naruto and/or BLEACH, huh?

@MangaTherapy We don’t where “Bleach” placed on the list of shows parents don’t approve of and we haven’t heard how “One Piece” placed on that list of series of parent’s don’t approve of.

Well, 15 is quite a large spread and Naruto is in the same league as programs that talk about promiscuous sex.

HOWEVER! It’s interesting to note that around the Enies Lobby arc (following the VERY dark W7 arc) OP actually beat Naruto on the list of series parents didn’t want their kids watching!

yep i love one piece, loved naruto too untill i lost interest andd now just waitin for the end…
